Compliance and Safety officer – Johannesburg

Duties ’ Responsibilities
Generic Objectives

Co-ordinates and controls investigation and inspection procedures / applications.
Executes relevant TFS procedures and applications associated with promoting and maintaining Health and Safety awareness at the site.
Provides administrative support, in conjunction with Human Resources, to the Health and Safety Committee.
Ensures statutory requirements are complied with and concerns, methodologies and approaches impacting Health and Safety are discussed prior to approving corrective measures or appropriate actions.
Attends to specific administrative information processing and reporting requirements.
To always be aware of situations that affects the safety of persons and ensure adherence of the OSH Act are adhered to at all times.
Use appropriate interpersonal styles and techniques to gain acceptance of ideas or plans, modifying behaviour to accommodate tasks, situations and people involved.
Setting up procedures to collect and review information necessary to control outcomes associated with the key performance areas.
Proactively driving and following up on any non-conformances and corrective actions that may be raised to ensure that they are closed timeously.
Taking prompt action to accomplish objectives, taking action to achieve goals beyond what is required.
Ensure administrative procedures and deadlines are adhered to and records maintained to facilitate resolution of enquiries and/or queries.
Assist with identifying and co-ordinating TFS staff health and safety training required and ensure relevant appointments are in place.
Ensure that relevant TFS Audits / Reports are scheduled timeously and assist with providing relevant information and documentation required.
Maintain all site relevant health and safety documents and records in accordance with the processes and procedures.

Site Specific Objectives

Ensure that Risk Assessments for all work conducted on site is implemented, reviewed and updated as required.
Ensuring compliance with all Environmental requirements, taking note of environmental aspects and impacts
Ensure that all contractors working on site undergo Site Induction
Ensure that all Safety Files for contractors are reviewed and updated
Ensure that the TFS safety file is reviewed and updated
Conduct Toolbox talks with staff daily
Conduct regular Inspections of Facilities and equipment, including inspections of all tools, ladders and personal protective equipment
Investigate any incidents and compile Incident reports
Conduct regular Job Observations with staff to determine that work is still being maintained in line with procedures
Review and update Safe Working Procedures as applicable to work being conducted on site.
Schedule and Facilitate the Health ’ Safety Meetings, including SHE Committee meeting
Communicate applicable risks and hazards to staff and communicate relevant Safe Working procedures.

ISO 9001; 14001 ’ 45001 – Quality, Environmental and Health ’ Safety Standards

Adhere to the Tsebo Facilites’ Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Management System’s Policies ’ Procedures as applicable to this position.

Qualifications

Grade 12 / Tertiary Qualification Essential.
SAMTRAC and/or a Recognised Health ’ Safety Qualification.
National Diploma in Health and Safety Management (NADSAM) would be preferable but not essential
5 years job related experience.
Knowledge of all OSH Act and applicable Regulations Policies and Procedures.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages.
