PURPOSE:

To ensure Financial Sustainability and Financial and Accounting functions of a Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:

BCom (Hons) Finance (Essential/Minimum)
Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)
Chartered Accountant (CA) (Recommended/Desirable)

EXPERIENCE:

8-10 years Business Operations knowledge; Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); International Financial Reporting standards; Companies Act; Income Tax; Commodity knowledge other relevant areas and regulations (Essential/Minimum) Operational

Duties ’ Responsibilities
Best Practice and Knowledge Management

Confer and share strategic, tactical and operational information with relevant stakeholders to discuss issues, coordinate activities and resolve problems related to execution of company strategy
Monitor exchange and preservation of information between operations and individuals

Business Growth and Development

Provide input into overall Finance strategy to ensure that strategy is in alignment with and supports Business Unit (BU) strategies
Ensure strategy and related initiatives are integrated and aligned with the Group strategy and business plans
Lead, monitor and control Finance function’s performance and establish appropriate synergies with other areas

Compliance, Governance and Assurance

Provide information to Finance Professional Services to ensure that policies, procedures, standards and guidelines are developed taking into account specific requirements of BU’s and to better enable specific requirements of region or municipal area
Ensure implementation of policies and procedures are in alignment with government legislation and charters
Interpret and enforce legislative and corporate governance requirements to manage risk and consequences of non-compliance within BU

Customer and Client Relationship Management

Manage internal and external relations, including interface with external providers or other functions responsible
Ensure promotion of awareness of customer requirements throughout designated area
Represent the Company at applicable forums
Provide relevant and specialised support to applicable stakeholders

Financial Management

Ensure financial reports, statements and consolidated budget forecast, including preparation of timetables and budget models for BU is completed
Manage relevant Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) with services entity
Ensure delivery of monthly management and board reports
Performance accounting for BU/Business Partner
Conduct forecasts, annual budgets and strategic plan forecasts
Analyse and identify budget variations
Manage and minimize financial risks
Manage annual company income tax, returns and oversee tax compliance

Functional Excellence

Standardise, simplify and speed-up functional processes, eliminate duplication/bureaucracy
Develop and apply functional best practices, promote sharing of best practices/knowledge
Execute functional excellence initiatives
Identify and report critical functional risks

People Management

Performance management: Clarify roles/responsibilities and expectations. Define individual performance standards, monitor and measure performance, reward and recognise high performance. Apply consistent performance and consequence management, take prompt action against non-performance
Talent development: Actively manage talent through regular assessment of employees’ strengths, development needs and development progress. Provide ongoing mentoring, coaching and development feedback to employees. Manage functional talent pipeline and succession planning process. Promote culture of continuous learning. Encourage and empower team to make decisions

Project Management

Lead a team of staff and manage subordinates’ and service providers’ key performance areas by setting and monitoring performance standards and taking action to correct deviations
Motivate and inspire staff to excel at their jobs and strive for excellence
Ensure staff resources are efficiently deployed and staff members undertake appropriate training and development so they are skilled to efficiently perform allocated duties
Support, coach and mentor direct reports in skills/knowledge development

Safe and Healthy Work Environment

Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations and practices, ensuring compliance with applicable Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) policies and procedures in line with set standards
Encourage a culture that focuses on safety in operations

Strategy Management

Interpret BU strategies to provide financial support in delivering on Business Strategies
Develop Finance strategy to ensure strategy is in alignment with and supports BU strategies
Ensure strategy and related initiatives are integrated and aligned with the Group strategy and business plans
Establish appropriate financial and overall BU performance synergies departments
