PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To support the Production Superintendent in managing plant operations in an effective and efficient manner ensuring sustainable operations complying with SHEQ, cost and volume targets through the utilization and provision of capable employees, equipment and resources. In addition, the Process Specialist needs to be the continuous improvement driver of the Metallurgical process through reporting on and analysing production performance, making recommendations and implementing projects in a safe manner.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

B.Eng./BSc. Eng. Degree or N Diploma.
4 years’ relevant experience in the heavy industry, preferably 2 years’ managerial experience.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety, Health, Environment and Quality:

Identify and assess issue based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial risk, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
Manage SHEQ compliance within the Process through effective use of the Toolbox
Utilise the Information Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status

Customers:

Define critical process control parameters and implement a system for continuous monitoring, measurement and management of these parameters to ensure that required process quality is maintained
Ensure Customer Satisfaction and manage monthly SLA measurement and discussions with internal customers production-rated capacity at minimum life cycle costs

Business Processes:

Develop, review and implement a process management strategy
Compile and control process budgets
Investigate failures and implement Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) findings
Manage process quality
Update GSAP Master Data
Define, track, report and manage critical metallurgical measures/parameters
Drive and manage Continuous Improvement cost saving initiatives
Manage capital and improvement projects
Manage and control process related shutdown activities
Process data analysis and process optimisation
Implement a system to monitor and track notification
Benchmarking within industry and other SCR pelletising plant
Manage 5S system

Knowledge:

Process understanding of the Pelletizing and Sintering Process
Knowledge of typical equipment used in the Pelletizing and Sintering Process
Understanding of Metallurgy and Mass Balances
Knowledge of Refractories will be beneficial
Knowledge of comminution principles and theory will be beneficial
Knowledge of applicable SHE legislation and standards
Knowledge of employment law/BCEA
