Reporting to:
The Senior Editor will report directly to the Head: Academic Operations within the Operations Team.

Job Purpose:

The successful Senior Editor incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the team of editors deliver an effective and efficient editing service to the IIE.

Key areas of responsibility

Plan and monitor the workload of editors to ensure that there is a quick and efficient flow of documents from the editors back to the academic team.
Compile weekly reports to inform planning and identifying any delays in the editing process.
Take responsibility for ensuring all delays are dealt with each week.
Secure and train freelance and manage editors to support the work of the full-time team to ensure the above efficient flow.
Train and supervise the work of full-time editors and assist with their recruitment.
Assess potential editors’ skills prior to appointment.
Develop protocols and templates in cooperation with the academic team for the editing standards.

Qualifications

At minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a field including English, Applied English, Linguistics, Journalism, Technical writing or other writing/communication)

Experience

At least two years of experience in managing or leading a team.
2 to 4 years of writing, editing, or publishing experience – preferably in education.
1-2 years working with MS Word, Excel.

Competencies

English competency at a first language reading, writing and speaking level – including an advanced command of written English grammar and syntax.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proofreading and editing.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment particularly in a leadership role.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and deliver against tight deadlines.
Administrative, organisational, interpersonal skills that would promote effective and efficient communication and information flow including the management of the load of others.
Advanced levels of Computer literacy – familiarity with the full suite of programs within Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint – at the level at which advanced editing functions can be effectively carried out.
High proficiency in typing.
Demonstrated attention to detail.
Ability to use discretion in decisions when determining necessary priorities.
Ability in displaying initiative, working strategically and independently, with limited supervision.
Proven record of managing editorial projects to a successful conclusion.
