Job Purpose

Manages the key performance areas of the design branch by evaluating the adequacy and capability of the functionality to support the departmental objectives, controlling the personnel and financial resources, developing and/or reviewing current procedures, identifying with opportunities and trends to facilitate continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibility Areas

Identifies and defines the immediate, short and long term objectives/plans of the branch.
Applies civil engineering principles to provide direction on the technical design andconstruction of a variety of operations.
Disseminates strategic, functional and operational information on the immediate, short andlong term objectives.
Co-ordinates specific administrative and reporting requirements.
Directs and control outcomes associated with utilization productivity and performance ofpersonnel within the branch.
Prepares capital and operating estimates for the branch and approves and controls operationaland project related expenditure against budget allocations.
Manages the formulation of contracts and tender documents and controls contractualobligations.

Essential Requirements

BSc (Engineering) Degree (NQF level 8).
Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
Valid motor vehicle driving license.
8 Years post registration Civil Engineering experience in water and sanitation.

Preferred Requirements

9 Years post registration Civil Engineering experience in water and sanitation disciplines.
