Senior Process Leader – Hammarsdale

Job Advert Summary    

  • Rainbow Chicken is recruiting for 2 Senior Process Leaders to join the Processing plant in Hammarsdale P2. These positions will report into the Processing Manager. The purpose of these roles is to supervise the performance of a processing line in the plant including (staff, machinery and material) to achieve daily targets to required product specifications, while meeting health, safety and quality standards.

Minimum Requirements    

  • A Diploma / Degree in Production Management / Engineering
  • 5 years relevant operational experience preferably in a unionized food processing plant
  • An abattoir hygiene or meat inspection qualification would be preferable
  • Poultry processing experience would be advantageous
  • Tolerance of stress and pressure
  • Deadline driven and people orientated
  • Literacy, Numeracy and Mechanical aptitude and good technical understanding
  • Ability to balance plant with regards to man load versus product mix
  • Strong knowledge of production principles
  • ISO and health, safety, and environmental legislation
  • Have systems orientation with proven administration skills and computer literacy
  • Exposure to WCM principles would be advantageous.
  • Have a valid code B/EB (Code 08) driver’s license with access to his/her own transport.
  • Have good interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, public holiday, and flexible hours of work.

Duties and Responsibilities    
Production Planning:

  • Co-ordinate production teams to ensure delivery of the production plan.
  • Facilitate signing off the production plan ensuring equipment availability.
  • Co-ordinate operations planning process and inventory control.

Operations Management:

  • Contribute towards continuous improvement, innovation at process & procedure level to enhance effectiveness, efficiency, and performance.
  • Ensure Fresh Delivery On Time In Full (OTIF). Oversee the performance of equipment (OEE).
  • Ensure execution of mini business agenda.
  • Establish the most efficient use of resources ie. Cost, people, time etc for each shift and allocate work accordingly.
  • Report on a weekly basis on actual Processing KPI’s versus budget and address non-conformances promptly
  • Manage Processing yield factors, initiate plans to reduce losses.
  • Analyze downtime, provide valid explanations for loss of production, and put action plans in place to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Liaise with New Product Development, ensure appropriate staff, equipment and materials are available to run successful trials.
  • Guide and prepare the Processing team for customer and statutory audits.
  • Manage processing yield and consumption factors and initiate plans to reduce losses. 

Budget Management:

  • Report on and manage all input costs within area of responsibility and manage any over and under spend appropriately to ensure that issues are addressed before significant financial loss occurs.
  • Authorize expenses within area of responsibility and within level of authority and monitor spending activity.
  • Innovate and implement cost containment measures.

Staff Management:

  • Ensure alignment of headcount plan to the production plan.
  • Manage and deliver on the Processing teams succession plans to enable the development of a future generation of leaders, specialists and ensure optimal turnover and retention levels.
  • Communicate actively and effectively resolving any potential conflicts that may arise, sharing/providing relevant information.
  • Assume overall responsibility for training & development of your team.
  • Conduct operational meetings and ensure that records are kept and shared amongst all parties and objectives are delivered upon.
  • Manage employee relations climate, ensure corrective action is taken where required in line with relevant legislation and Company policy.
  • Develop supportive relationships with reports and encourage a team spirit.

Safety, Health, Risk and Quality Oversight:

  • Input into the establishment of systems and sound practices in order to comply with best practices, legislation or other regulations / guidelines.
  • Ensure on-time investigations and closure of NCA’s/CARs.
  • Ensure on-time investigation and closure of Safety deviation.
  • Monitor Processing team to ensure all legislative and industry standards are achieved and prompt action is taken where required to ensure there are no areas of non-compliance
  • Chair and facilitate regular safety meetings with your teams and ensure action points are delivered upon.
  • Drive the adherence and maintenance of FSSE 22000/ ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards within the Total Integrated Management System throughout Processing.
  • Ensure documentation required for Total Integrated Management System is applied consistently throughout Processing.
  • Drive in-process quality control in line with supply chain and external customer requirements throughout processing plant.
  • Ensure environmentally sustainable practices are implemented and adhered to and that resource usage is managed effectively, (e.g. conservation of water, electricity, and coal).
