Job Purpose

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a competent and qualified individual to provide specialist (most complex, advanced) heritage services. This post is based in Cape Town, CBD.

Minimum Requirements

An appropriate 3-year B-Degree (equivalent or higher qualification) in the field of Archaeology, Palaeontology, Geology, Meteorites, Heritage Conservation, Anthropology, Building Science or History ; A minimum of 5 years relevant experience; A valid driving licence (Code B or higher). Note: People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities but have reasonable access to transport may also apply

Key Performance Areas

Processing most complex and advanced application for permits, impact assessment and appeals received in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act (Act 25 of 1999) and other relevant legislation;
Develop proposals for the most complex cases for formal protection of Heritage Resources;
Monitor and enforce compliance with most sensitive and intricate permits and conditions of impact assessments and other aspects of legislation;
Provide professional, technical assistance, advice and undertake advocacy on heritage matters;
Prepare the PHRA submission to the tribunals;
Brief counsel or state prosecutor on the technical details with regards to court cases;
Ensure proper storage of archaeological and paleontological, meteorites artifacts.
