DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The client is seeking a dedicated and skilled Tech Lead to oversee several of their Data Management for Analytics teams. In this role, the successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient operation, growth, and delivery of the client’s data products. Acting as a liaison between business and technical teams, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the product owner, data engineers, and other key stakeholders to drive successful project outcomes within an agile scrum environment.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Strong understanding of Agile methodologies.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical audiences.
In-depth knowledge of data architecture principles and best practices.
Ability to identify and facilitate training opportunities for team members.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Copes well under pressure.

Responsibilities:

Client Liaison: Act as the main contact for clients, ensuring a clear understanding of their needs and converting them into practical requirements for the data engineering team to implement.
Backlog Refinement: Work closely with the Product Owner to refine and develop the backlog, ensuring that user stories are well-defined, precise, and technically feasible for the data engineering team.
Technical Expertise: Utilise your extensive expertise in BI Systems to advise the Product Owner and team on technical limitations and potential opportunities.
Mentorship & Training: Pinpoint opportunities for growth and provide access to training or mentorship programs to help team members enhance their skills.
Technical Debt Management: Clearly articulate technical debt and convert it into actionable backlog tasks to maintain the long-term stability of the system.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Act as the team’s representative in cross-functional meetings, ensuring their needs are voiced and coordinating their workload according to project dependencies.
Time Management: Manage the team’s time tracking and ensure precise project monitoring and effective resource allocation.
Performance Management: Assess the performance of data engineers and offer constructive feedback to encourage ongoing development and improvement.
KPI Tracking & Management: Evaluate the team’s progress against established product KPIs. If necessary, modify our strategies to ensure we’re on track to achieve our goals.
Incident Management: Assume ownership of critical business incident management, prioritising timely resolution and minimising operational impact.
GCP Budget Management: Manage and optimise Google Cloud Platform (GCP) operational expenditure (Opex) budgets. Ensure that resources are utilised efficiently to minimise costs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Proven experience as a Team Leader for Data Management for Analytics, Data Engineer, or similar role.
Experience managing and prioritising a backlog.
Budget management experience.

ADVANTAGEOUS SKILLS:

Experience working with cloud platforms like GCP is a plus.
